More Fun Upstairs
From the first tag to the latest wheat paste, upstairs at TMom’s has been home to a rich history of local & international street art. This is an ever changing gallery: an un-curated & spontaneous outpouring of creativity by local & traveling artists and the countless visitors who leave their unique mark here nightly.
The birth of the upstairs as a vibrant art space is in part tied to a 1999 exhibition by brothers Noah & Nathan Rice. That year the Brothers Rice brought their umbrella wheat pastes we’d been admiring around South Street to Mom’s. All 5000 of them.
Sticker art has been an important part of the upstairs at Mom’s since day one. So it’s a huge honor (and a lot of fun) to be the home of the Sticky Art Machine.

This September 4th, Wooden Shoe is hosting a book discussion with author Olivier van Beemen—and afterwards they’re bringing the party to Tattooed Mom!
Reading at Wooden Shoe Books & Records from 7-10pm,
& an after party at Tattooed Mom from 10pm-close (just in time for our late night happy hour)!

The Mason Jar Press Novella series is coming out Tuesday, July 16th, and we’re celebrating their release with a tour kick-off at Tattooed Mom!
Celebrate the release of three novellas from three amazing writers: The Couples by Nicole Callihan, Manhunt by Jaime Fountaine (host of the popular TMOMs literary series Tire Fire), and All Friends are Necessary by Tomas Moniz (all Mason Jar Press, 2019). Chosen during an open submission period out of hundreds of submissions, these thematically linked pieces speak to one another while containing a strength and style all their own.
THE COUPLES, by Nicole Callihan, finds the protagonist at a crossroads in her marriage and her family life, remembering and reexperiencing her first relationship and all the damage her youth imparted upon her.
Tomas Moniz’s ALL FRIENDS ARE NECESSARY follows a young man in San Francisco as he navigates love, addiction, and the struggles of early adulthood on his way to maturity and independence.
In Jaime Fountaine’s MANHUNT, a girl spends the summer she’s thirteen negotiating a place for herself in her body, her neighborhood, her family, and the world.

South Philadelphia residents Alexander Schneider and Christina Rosso-Schneider are opening A Novel Idea, an independent bookstore in East Passyunk, this winter.
A Novel Idea will feature both new and used books, as well as offer a variety of events. The goal is that it will become a place known for great books, merchandise, and events, but also a space where community is fostered. Alexander and Christina are kicking things off with a fundraiser & reading event at Tattooed Mom!
Any contributions or donations are greatly appreciated–whether they be gently used books, monetary donations, or purchases at the event.
