Zine makers across Philly, come vend your little hearts out with host Megazine in the front pool table room. Make trades, meet cool artists, and have fun! Once you’ve grabbed your stash of handmade oddities, stick around for the open mic extravaganza in the back room with your other host, Collide. Open mic sign ups start at 6, and the show will start around 6:30 through 9pm.

This isn’t your average poetry reading—oh no! We’re talking about a stage where anything goes. Whether you want to recite an epic poem about the trials of finding matching socks or perform a one-person musical, this is your moment. Poets, new sh*t and old sh*t is welcome! We encourage performers to promote their other shows, Spotifys, and any other places we can follow their creative pursuits.

At the end of the night, we’ll be drawing raffle prizes for cool zines/art items from our participating vendors–be sure to buy a chance to win at the pool table before we pull them at 9:15pm!

To vend at Zine Zipper, email collidezinephilly@gmail.com  before 8/31 to secure a table.

Book Launch: Chivalry in the Shadows

SunSun
September 29September 29
1:00 pm4:00 pm

Join us for an exciting afternoon at the Chivalry in the Shadows book launch, where we celebrate the release of this new work by the award-winning writer, Dr. Meg Wahlberg. Taking place on Sunday, September 29, upstairs at Tattooed Mom, the event will offer an opportunity to hear Meg Wahlberg introduce her LGBTQ+ Historical Fiction set in 13th-century Brittany. In this novel, a noblewoman convinces her brother to fight in a tournament that will win him the hand of the Baron’s daughter. The knight soon realizes, though, that there is a secret and forbidden love between the ladies. As the tournament nears, the siblings are faced with the predicament of either forming an alliance… or becoming each other’s romantic rival.

Enjoy an exclusive interview with the author, followed by a theatrical reading and a Q&A session where you can delve deeper into the themes of the book. Dr. Wahlberg, a medievalist specializing in the High and Late Middle Ages, also welcomes any questions you might have about medieval culture, literature, and what we know about queer identities of this time. Attendees will have the chance to purchase signed copies and mingle with fellow book lovers.

A Night of Sapphic Poetry

ThuThu
October 3October 3
6:00 pm10:00 pm

For you, beautiful women, my thoughts are unchanging.

The Greek poet Sappho composed heart-wrenching verses of lesbian love over two thousand years ago. Now her lyrics exist only in scattered fragments. Still, they have inspired WLW lovers and artists through millennia, enduring as some of the most potent queer love poetry in human history.Join us for a night of reading Sappho’s remaining lyrics and composing our own Sappho-inspired poetry, which will be shared open mic-style. Miriam Kamil, Sappho expert and classics professor at Bryn Mawr College, will lead our exploration through Sappho’s work, followed by a sapphic poetry-writing workshop led by Philadelphia-based, award-winning queer poets Maya Workowski and Sarah Gamard.
