The reading takes place at Tattooed Mom’s from 6PM to 9PM. There are three featured readers, who will each read for 15 to 20 minutes. The featured readers will be followed by an open mic, hosted by Noah! Readers have 5 minutes to perform. Remember, the tone is spooky! Must be 21+ with valid ID to attend.

Robyn Hager
This event is obviously Halloween themed—but the idea came from Roberts’ most recent book, Final Girl Mythos, which is a collections of poems inspired by classic slasher movies. Roberts watched all the source movies over the summer—including watching films like Halloween and Friday the 13 th for the first time—and got really into the spooky spirit. Halloween is always with us! That is why the event is titled Spooky Poems 365.

“Summonings” Launch Party
Join local poet Raena Shirali and friends to celebrate the launch of summonings with a night of poetry and art at Tattooed Mom, presented by Black Lawrence Press!
summonings investigates the ongoing practice of witch (“daayan”) hunting in India. These poems explore how antiquated and existing norms surrounding female mysticism in India and America inform each culture’s treatment of women, concepts that will be in conversation with the rest of the work from this incredible lineup of compelling Philadelphia poets.
In addition to readings from this collection and the work of Emma Brown Sanders, Cindy Arrieu-King, Kathy Fagan, Kim Gek Lin Short, and Alina Pleskova, the night will feature paintings by Brooklyn based artist Meera Dugal. All together, it will be a night of delicious drinks, tasty bites, and riveting art at a Philadelphia institution.

Praise for Choose Your Own Beginning:
“Amy Saul-Zerby’s language is direct, beautifully clipped—a terseness that poem after poem swells into an expansive reckoning with depression, love, and, of course, the self. Insight, here, is hard-won. These memorable poems ripple with intimacies and linguistic pleasures. They will stay with you.”
– Eduardo C. Corral, author of Guillotine
“Amy Saul-Zerby’s unforgettable new collection is revelatory in its frankness and sexy in its cool detachment. Hungry, seductive, confessional, pithy, the intimacy of these poems is bracing and gorgeous.”
– Richie Hofmann, author of A Hundred Lovers
“Choose Your Own Beginning is a collection of beauty, devastation, and deep resilience resonating through every poem.”
– Ariel Francisco, author of Under Capitalism If Your Head Aches They Just Yank Off Your Head

Scribes on South
SCRIBES ON SOUTH is a poetry reading and open mic. The reading begins with a 20-minute featured reader and then moves through the open mic list for the rest of the night. Open mic readers have 5 minutes. There will be a space for poets to sell books.
SCRIBES ON SOUTH seeks to create community through poetry. Show out, share, and meet some new friends by sharing your work!
There is no theme; the only theme is poems. Good poems, bad poems, boring poems, fiery poems. The only rule is no snapping (it’s distracting to the readers).
The reading is hosted by Noah David Roberts.
This reading’s featured reader is Damian Rucci, an eclectic bombast working-class hero poet from Jersey.
Read poems. Kick ass.
